Writing Consultants

Damaria Daniels

I am working towards a BA in Communications and expect to graduate December 2012. Being that my mother is an English teacher, I was raised to love the subject. English has been my favorite subject since middle school, so being a consultant in the writing center is an exciting and honorable position for me. I enjoy free writing because it allows me to express my thoughts and feelings. I also enjoy writing poetry and lyrics. In my spare time I am an active member of the PVAMU cheerleading squad and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NCSC). My favorite movies include: Love and Basketball, The Wood, and all of the Twilight Sagas.

Keith Evans

I graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, where I received my BA with Honors in English in the Spring of 2007. I joined the Graduate Program there, but decided to take a year off to return home to Waller and help my family after my father was diagnosed with cancer. Now I have returned to school at Prairie View A&M to earn a Master’s in English. My specialty is creative writing, a path I hope to expand upon and make my career as an author. When I am not working or studying, I write, or play video games, including old nostalgic games on the NES and Atari. I love to read and write, especially dark horror or science-fiction stories. My absolute favorite author is Howard Philips Lovecraft, the father of modern horror. My favorite movie is Repo! The Genetic Opera.

Chassidy Guidry

I am a Political Science and English double major. Acquiring a passion for writing and literature at an early age, I am fascinated by the way literature presents themes that coincide with life and personal beliefs. Helping others recognize how powerful writing can be is one of the satisfactions I receive from working in the Writing Center.  In the future, my goal is to attend law school and become an attorney. My favorite movies are Love and Basketball and Dream Girls. In my spare time I like to watch CNN and MSNBC.

Khalilah Moore

I am an undergraduate majoring in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Physics. I moved to Houston from Flint Michigan where I graduated from Flushing High School. During my time at Flushing, I was very active in the school newspaper and yearbook. I always knew I wanted to write because when I was little I would sit at home and write fantasy stories. In my spare time I love watching movies and playing chess. Upon graduation I plan to further my education in Electrical Engineering by attending graduate school. My favorite quote is “What lies in front of us, and what lies behind us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us”-Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Michael Moore

I came to Prairie View as a 16-year-old engineering major through the ESCI program. Shortly thereafter, I decided engineering was not for me. I decided to play to my strengths. I became a political science major, and through my studies there I was connected to the Writing Center. Political science classes offered me a wealth of opportunities to develop my understanding of the human condition. In doing so, I have demonstrated my writing ability and improved my skills. I’ve been writing for years, starting with lyrics in middle school, and moving forward with essay-style assignments and research papers; this sort of writing dominates my academic responsibilities to this day. I still write lyrics and produce music when I can, and I can be found in Hobart Taylor playing keyboard from time to time.

James Norman

I am a criminal justice major and transfer student from West L.A. Community College. I enjoy working at the Writing Center because I like to help students with writing techniques. I have been at the Writing center since the summer of 2010, and I am continually learning new techniques to present to students.

Joy Patterson

I first worked as a Writing Center consultant as an undergraduate at Prairie View A&M University. I received a BA in English with a minor in Business in 2005 and then worked as a Marketing Representative for Surety Systems, Inc. before entering the English graduate program. My favorite books are Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe and Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo A. Anaya, and my favorite movies are The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Devil Wears Prada.

Michael Andrew Rudder

I graduated from Lambuth University in 2009 with a Bachelors of Arts in History, changing my focus to English when I entered Prairie View A&M University's graduate program. I am currently focusing on Creative Writing, with the intent to teach others how to write fiction after graduation. I have published four novels, and plan to continue to write one each year. My interests include toying with new writing techniques, gaming both on consoles and tabletop, and film. Some of my favorite writers include Tamora Pierce, Robert E. Howard, Fritz Leiber, H.P.. Lovecraft, Maki Murakami, Sanami Matoh, and Kazuma Kodaka. A few of my favorite films are The Fifth Element, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The Lion King, and Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Chelsea Moody

Currently a senior, I am obtaining a BA in English with teacher certification in ELAR 8-12. Since joining the Writing Center’s team, I have learned so much about leadership skills and dedication. I enjoy helping others, and this position provides numerous opportunities for me to foster this passion. Some of my favorite books are The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah, Passing by Nella Larsen, and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. As I continue to grow with the superb team in the Writing Center, I can only hope that I leave an impressionable mark behind once I march across the stage and enter the teaching world.
