• Texas JCPC 4th Annual Conference 2011
  On June 9, 2011, the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center sponsored its 4^th annual conference entitled,” Innovative Strategies for Challenging Times”.   There were students, faculty, educators, law enforcement, social service and juvenile justice practitioners in attendance. The open address, The Changing Landscape of the Texas Juvenile Justice System, was presented by Ms. Vicki Spriggs, executive director of the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission.   Ms. Spriggs informed the participants of the major issues in juvenile justice resulting from the 82^nd Legislative Session.   The legislation (SB 653) by Sen. Whitmire to abolish the Texas Youth Commission and the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission and transfers the powers and duties of both agencies to the newly created Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) effective December 1, 2011 was addressed. The PowerPoint presentation is enclosed
