Prairie View A&M University’s Distinguished Military Graduates

Six African-American Army general officers have graduated from Prairie View A&M University: Former President Julius W. Becton, Jr. (Lt. Gen., Ret.); Lt. Gen. Marvin D. Brailsford; Lt. Gen. Calvin A. H. Waller; Maj. Gen. Julius Parker; Maj. Gen. Billy K. Solomon; Brig. Gen. Johnny Forte; and two Navy Admirals; Adm. David L. Brewer; Adm.Ossie V. Combs. Jr.

NOTED ALUMNI

Lt. Gen (Ret) Julius W. Becton, Jr.: First Prairie View A&M University graduate to attain general officer status in the US Army; was first Prairie View A&M University graduate to serve as President of Prairie View A&M University.

Mr. Louis A. Bedford, Jr.: Former judge in Dallas County and civil rights attorney. Former President of the Prairie View National Alumni Association.

RADM David Brailsford Brewer III: First Prairie View A&M University graduate to attain the status of Admiral in the US Navy.

Mr. Emmanuel Cleaver: First Black Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Bettye Davis-Lewis Combs: Founder and CEO of Diversified Health Care Systems of Houston.

Dr. Keith Crawford: M.D., Ph.D., Professor, Howard University

Ms. Terry Ellis: Vocalist; former member of En Vogue.

Mr. George Forte Francis, III: Senior Vice President for Human Resources, Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Michigan. Former Vice President for Human Resources with General Motors Corporation.

Mr. W. T. Greer, Jr.: Vice President and Director, Advance Technologies, Motorola Corporation.

Dr. Margaret E. Grigsby: Professor Emeritus, Howard University College of Medicine; extensive research in the area of infectious tropical disease.

Erma Johnson Hadley: Vice Chancellor for Administration, Tarrant County College District, Fort Worth, Texas.

Mr. Kenneth Houston: Former professional football player, Houston Oilers and Washington Redskins, elected to the NFL Hall of Fame.

Mrs. Nathelyne Archie Kennedy: Founder and President of Nathelyne A. Kennedy Associates, a prominent Houston-area engineering firm.

Dr. Terri Major Kincade: M.D., Professor, The University of Texas Medicine and Director of the Pediatric Neonatal Clinic, Herman Hospital, Houston, Texas.

Dr. Sidney A. McPhee: President of Middle Tennessee State University, Mufreesboror, Tennessee.

Dr. Samuel Metters: Former President of Prairie View National Alumni Association, CEO, Meters Industries.

Mr. James Mitchell: Vice President, Texas Instruments, Inc.

James Tatum: President and CEO, The James Tatum Foundation.

The Honorable Senfronia Thompson: State of Texas House of Representatives.

Lt. Gen. (Ret) Calvin Waller: Distinguished Career Army Officer; served as second-in-command in Operation Desert Storm (Deceased).

Ms. Jackie Willis-Waller: Prominent fashion designer known as “Jackie O.”

Mr. Don Clark: Former Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Houston, Texas.
