Find Books
The Coleman Library has a large collection of books and other material which will help you find biographical information on architects and illustrations of their works. Some famous buildings (e.g., the Empire State Building) might have books devoted solely to their history and construction, but others will be found only in collections on a particular architect or style (e.g., skyscrapers). If you can't find what you need, ask at the Reference Desk or email us via Ask a Librarian on the library homepage.
SELECTED REFERENCE BOOKS
Try putting "architecture" itself as the subject term, and then exploring the 'note' that appears. Sometimes the heading is subdivided by location.
Ex: "Architecture - United States"
Useful Subject Headings:
| Building | Historic buildings |
| Buildings | Minimal architecture |
| Church architecture | Structural engineering |
| Glass construction | Sustainable architecture |
The easiest way to find books on individual architects is to use their name as a subject term, last name first. You can also try specific buildings"
