Steps to Apply for a Stafford Loan

The Federal Family Education Loan (FFELP) program consists of the following:

  • Federal Stafford Subsidized Loan
  • Federal Stafford Unsubsidized Loan
  • Federal Stafford PLUS Loan
  • Federal Stafford Graduate PLUS Loan

You are not required to borrow and may borrow less than the amount offered. You can also decide to have funds returned to the lender after the school has received them.

Two Steps To Success

1.  Complete your loan entrance counseling.

First-time PVAMU borrowers must complete online Loan Entrance Counseling. If you have borrowed loans in the past, you are not required to complete the loan entrance counseling session again, but it is highly suggested you do since the Federal Stafford Loan program has experienced many changes since last year.

2.  Select your lender and complete your MPN.

Select a lender from the listing of Prairie View A&M University’s Student Loan Comparison Gateway and apply for the total amount needed to cover the term in question. (i.e. fall and spring, or summer semesters).

First-time borrowers and prior borrowers changing to new lender must complete a Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) online or mail one to their lender. If you are using the same lender you have used in the past, you do not need to complete this step.

You are not required to choose from our Student Loan Comparison Gateway. We will gladly process a loan from any lender.

Success Follow-up

Check your Loan Status

Seventy-two hours after you complete this process, log into ELM and check your loan status.

* This group of lenders was selected based on the number of PVAMU Students who used them in the past. PVAMU students have chosen lenders who provided excellent discounts and EFT services. PVAMU will gladly work with any U.S. Department of Education approved lender you select. However, lenders who use paper applications or non-compatible EFT processes will slow down our delivery of your loan funds. See PVAMU Loan Disclosure page for details.
