What is the Gulf Coast Consortia? Is was created in the fall of 2001 to provide a formal and lasting mechanism to foster innovative training and research collaborations at the interface of the biological, physical, chemical and computational sciences. Comprised of six prominent Gulf Coast institutions, Baylor College of Medicine, Rice University, University of Houston, University of Texas Health Science at Houston, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, the GCC is one of the largest inter-institutional co-operatives in the world.
With training programs in computational biology & medicine, molecular biophysics, computational & structural biology in biodefense, nanobiology, pharmacoinformatics, virus imaging, and data-driven biomedical discovery, the GCC is focused on building strong interdisciplinary training opportunities as well as critical collaborative research groups.
Some of the research opportunities are: Training Program in Computational Biology and Medicine, Houston Area Molecular Biophysics Program, Nanobiology Training Program, Training Program in Pharmacoinformatics, W.M. Keck Foundation, Computational and Structural Biology in Biodefense, W.M. Keck Center for Virus Imaging Training Program, Training in Biomedical Discovery for Large Scale Data Sets, and Undergraduate Research Training Program.
