Prairie View-The Prairie View women’s soccer team played Southern University on Friday and Jackson State University on Sunday in this past week of play.
Prairie View opened up the week of play Friday against divisional foe Southern University. Prairie View came out strong in the first half out-shooting Southern 5-1 ending the half tied at 0-0. Going into the second half the Lady Panthers continued to press the defensive back line of Southern as Prairie View continued their dominance out-shooting Southern 6-5.
The game was coming down the stretch tied at 0-0 when Southern fouled Prairie View on the attack in the box, senior goal keeper Jessica Garcia was awarded the penalty kick as she capitalized and scored on a beautiful kick that gave Prairie View the upper hand, which was the deciding factor that put the Lady Panthers on top 1-0. Abigail Escobar and Yosselyn Aguilar also contributed with the pressure throughout the whole game both contributing four shots on goal.
Coming off a tough win against Southern University the Lady Panthers took on Jackson State University on Sunday November 1, 2009. Prairie View came out sluggish getting outshot 8-3 in the first half. The score was still tied at the half because of awesome play by senior goal keeper Jessica Garcia contributing10 saves to keep Prairie View alive.
In the second half Prairie View just couldn’t find a rhythm getting outshot 9-4. Jackson State finally scored late in the final half with a 25 yard shot outside the box by Niara Crimiel that put JSU up 1-0 closing PVAMU out.
The Lady Panthers will continue their season going into the SWAC tournament this week November 4-9 as the Lady Panthers hope to earn the SWAC title this season.
