Game Box Score

The Prairie View A&M Panthers exploded for 35 points in the first half en route to a 38-0 shutout over the visiting Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils for homecoming on Saturday afternoon before 10,000 fans at Blackshear Field.

Prairie View (4-1, 3-0 SWAC) came out clicking on all cylinders as quarterback K.J. Black found Gabe Osaze-Ediae for a 69-yard reception on team's opening play.  Four plays later, running back Donald Babers punched the ball in from three yards out for Prairie View's first score of the afternoon.  Brady Faggard's PAT was good as Prairie View claimed an early 7-0 lead.

After a three-and-out by the Delta Devils, Austin Nwokobia blocked a MVSU punt that was recovered by Quinton Spears at the MVSU 23.  Prairie View took advantage of the great field position and moved ahead by two scores as Black connected with Brandon Bell for a 28-yard touchdown reception with 6:20 remaining in the first quarter.

Nwokobia made his presence felt once again on special teams as the graduate student from Sugar Land, Texas set Prairie View up with good field position after recording his second block of the game.  Once again, Prairie View capitalized on the outstanding field position as Black threw his second touchdown of the game to tight end Marlon Allen.  Faggard's PAT was successful as the Panthers claimed a 20-0 lead at the 3:39 mark of the first quarter.

A fumble recovery by Prairie View's Devin Boyd early in the second quarter helped set up Prairie View's fourth score of the afternoon as Black led the Panthers on a 10-play, 59-yard drive that was capped off with him finding Osaze-Ediae for a 10-yard touchdown reception with 6:34 left in the second quarter.  Two drives later, Prairie View upped its lead to 35-0 as free safety Eric Moore picked off a pass from MVSU quarterback Marvin Pittman and returned it 67 yards for a touchdown to close out the scoring in the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Panthers returned to the scoreboard for their final score of the game as Faggard nailed a 39-yard field goal with 8:40 remaining.

Prairie View finished the contest with 421 (235 P, 186 R) total offensive yards while MVSU netted 164 (90 P, 74 R) yards.  Black passed for 235 yards and three touchdowns on 17 of 23 passing while Osaze-Ediae finished with 109 receiving yards on five receptions.  Running back Donald Babers led all rushers with 90 yards on 18 carries.  On defense, Prairie View A&M linebacker Max Sencherey led all defenders with 11 tackles.

The Panthers will have a short week as they travel to Southern University for an important divisional contest on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in A.W. Mumford Stadium.  The contest will be televised live on ESPNU.
