Monday, September 28, 2009 12:51 PM

The Prairie View women’s soccer team went on the road this past week playing two Southland Conference teams.

The Lady Panthers opened up their weekly schedule against Texas State University. Prairie View came into the match with a 2-4 overall record, coming off two big back to back wins against University of North Texas and Texas College.

Texas State came out amounting constant pressure on the defensive back line of Prairie View out shooting the Lady Panthers 12-0 in the first half. Prairie View goal keeper Jessica Garcia recorded eight total saves throughout the match. Going into the second half tied at 0-0, the Lady Panthers couldn’t stop the fire power of the Lady Bobcats as they scored 5 goals in the second half.  Texas State sealed the win 5-0 putting them at 5-5 overall record.

On Sunday , University of Texas San Antonio beat the Lady Panthers 4-0 in San Antonio.

UTSA closed the first half with a goal in the forty-third minute of play with a cross into the box that was finished by Bonnie Caulfield. At half trailing 1-0, the Lady Panthers came into the second half with energy putting four shots on goal but were unable to put a goal in the back of the net. Yosselyn Aguilar led PVAMU with three shots followed with one shot by Claudia Martinez and one shot by Navyd Diaz.

“We have opened up our schedule this season against really good teams,” said head coach Abe Garcia. “This will prepare us to be physically and mentally prepared to play teams in the SWAC conference.”

The Lady Panthers open up SWAC play this week with back to back games against Alabama State University on October 2, 2009 at 4pm followed by a game against Alabama A&M on October 3, 2009 at 2pm.
