The Principal Standard Certificate issued by the State Board for Educator Certification requires a master’s degree, a valid Texas Teacher Certificate, two years of teaching experience, completion of required graduate course work and a passing score on the TExES Examination #68.
For the Professional Counselor Certificate issued by the State Board for Educator Certification, requirements are, two years of teaching experience, completion of required graduate work in counseling and a passing score on TExES Examination # 152.

ALL students seeking a probation certificate must be accepted, enrolled and in good financial standing with the university in order to submit an application for a probationary certificate. lf approved students must then enroll in a course for said certificate.
Rule §230.37 - Probationary Certificates
Superintendent, Principal, School Counselor, School Librarian, Educational Diagnostician, Reading Specialist, and Master Teacher
- must meet all requirements prescribed by the Educator Preparation Program (EPP), based on the qualifications and requirements for the class of certification sought and duties to be performed by the holder of a certificate in that class
- be accepted and enrolled in an approved EPP
- be assigned in the professional class certification area being sought in a Texas school district, open-enrollment charter school or other school approved by TEA.
- subject to all the terms and conditions of a probationary certificate.
Students on a probationary Principal certificate should enroll in ADMN 5083 Special Topics and School Counselor probationary certificated students should enroll in CNSL 5003 Organization and Administration of Guidance Programs
