(Students who are unable to make an in-person audition should send a high-quality VHS or DVD recording labeled with their name, instrument or voice-type, high school, and contact information.)
Music Audition Guidelines:
Instrumentalists:
a.)Minimum of two etudes or solos of contrasting style (one technical/one lyrical)
b.)Scales (major and minor, multiple octaves if possible)
Percussionists:
a.)Perform 13 essential rudiments: UIL snare drum solo
b.)Mallet percussion: Same as instrumental audition requirements
c.)Timpani: UIL solo
Vocalists:
a.)Perform two solo songs; one song must be in a standard singing language other than English (Latin, German, French, Italian, Spanish)
(SATB choral music is not acceptable for the audition)
Pianists:
a.)Perform two solo pieces of contrasting style by a major Classical composer such as: Bach, Bartok, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Liszt, Mozart, Schumann, Schubert, etc. (Single movements of longer works are acceptable; simplified versions of more advanced works are not acceptable)
b.)Scales (Hands Together, major and minor, 2-4 octaves)
*If needed, an accompanist will be provided at the auditions. Please bring music (in the proper arrangement and key) for the accompanist or you may bring your own accompanist.
