Study-Abroad Programs and Financial Aid |
Lately, a number of our students have expressed interest in Study-Abroad Programs. Students and faculty should make sure that they read this memorandum for guidance on study-abroad programs and financial aid.
Students
Students that have signed up to participate in a University sanctioned study-abroad program and interested in receiving financial aid to help defray the costs, should notify the financial aid office at least three months before the departure date. Please note that even though financial aid may be available, it may not be enough to pay for all of the costs associated with the program.
Along with documents that students may have to complete for their individual departments, they will also have to complete a Study-Abroad form for the financial aid office. Beginning December 15,2007, the form will be available via the financial aid office's on-line form page at http://www.pvamu.edu/pages/1950.asp. Students must make sure to complete the form and provide supporting documentation.
Faculty
If the study-abroad program is approved for academic credit toward one's degree by Prairie View A&M University at which one is enrolled as a regular student, the student is eligible for Federal student aid. Prairie View A&M University must have a written agreement with the foreign school (or with another U.S. school that contracts with the foreign school) or a single written arrangement with a study-abroad organization to represent an agreement between the home school and the foreign school. (REA Sec. 484(0), 34 CFR 668.39) In order to ensure compliance with federal regulations, before aid is processed for the student, the Office of Student Financial Aid will request a copy of the contract from the department.
