Prospective International Student Orientation & Check-In
Check-In
The student will need to have his/her immigration documents with them (Passport, Form I-20, I-94 Card).He/she will also need to show proof of medical insurance coverage or purchase a medical insurance plan. (Date will be determined and the student will be notified in writing).
Orientation
This session will be an overview of immigration rules and regulations that the student will be responsible for adhering to in order to remain in the United Status in legal student status. The student will need to bring his/her immigration documents (Passport, Form I-20, I-94 Card) to the orientation session.This orientation session is mandatory prior to registration for all new international students, including transfer-in students.Failure to attend orientation as scheduled will delay registration.This orientation session is not to be confused with any other scheduled orientation. (Date will be determined and the student will be notified in writing).

University are required to have medical insurance.Proof of medical insurance coverage will be required prior to registration.Medical insurance plans will be available at check-in. The student may select any health plan but the insurance policy must meet or exceed the requirements listed below:
Repatriation of remains in the amount of $7500
Medical evacuation to one’s home country of at least $10,000
Medical benefits of at least $50,000
A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness
The estimated cost may vary from semester to semester based on selected plan and premium increases.
Payment of Tuition & Fees Full payment is required upon registration oran Installment payment of 50% upon registration. The remaining 50% of fees is divided into two payments with specific payment dates. Specific payment dates will be given to you for both options.
Social Security Card/Number It is important to remember that the social security number is issued for employment purposes only.To apply for a social security number a student must first clear the international student advisor’s check-in and orientation. The student must be registered for a full course of study.Students are advised to wait at least ten days after clearing the advisor’s office before applying for a social security number.
To apply for the social security number:
The student must be cleared for on-campus employment by the Immigration Services Coordinator.
The student must have a Employment Letter from the Hiring Department.
The student must go to the Social Security Office and complete the application form.
The student must present his/her passport, visa, I-94 card, Form I-20 and the advisor’s letter authorizing employment and the departments Employment Letter to the Social Security Office when applying for a social security card.
Note: F-2 dependents of F-1 students are not eligible for a social security number.F-2 dependents are not eligible for employment in the U.S.
, however, F-2 dependents can apply for a Tax Payer’s Identification Number with the Internal Revenue Service. Further details can be found under Social Security Administration
Transfer Students
A student transferring from another U.S. college/university to Prairie View A&M University, must complete their transfer by the 15th class day.In order to complete the transfer and issue the student a Form I-20 the university must have an advisor’s report and the student’s SEVIS file must be released to the University from the previous school.
