Welcome to the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) in the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering at Prairie View A&M University on the Hill. We offer Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the undergraduate level. We also offer minor with two options; civil engineering and environmental engineering. We also offer the Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) program with two concentrations, civil engineering and environmental engineering through this department. The Department has faculty that are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service. The department has a very low faculty to student ratio, maintains a great learning environment and is committed to high level of customer service.
Our department, the college of engineering and the university take pride in maintaining the small school atmosphere. You will feel this as you step onto our beautiful campus on the hill. Our caring faculty have expanded office hours that support close interaction and one on one advising and mentoring during the course of your study here.
The civil engineering program is accredited by Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202 – telephone: 410-347-7700).. Currently the undergraduate civil engineering program offers at least two courses in each of the four focus areas; environmental, structures, transportation and water resources engineering. We have excellent laboratories in all the focus areas of civil engineering and our students will have a great opportunity to get hands on training. We have dedicated freshman and transfer student advisors to work with the incoming students and make the transition easier. We are very proud to announce that all our recent graduates left the university with a job offer or had jobs within few months of graduation. We also have excellent track record in finding summer internship opportunities for our students.
I am happy to announce that we also have a summer program, Summer Transportation Institute (STI) which we have been offering since 2000. This program is funded by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and is specially designed for students who will be 11th and 12th graders in high school the coming school year. Please check out the program website (www.pvamu.edu/sti).
I thank you for your interest in CEE programs at Prairie View A&M University. I invite you to browse the website and drop us an email or call us or better yet, come by and pull up a chair and visit awhile, and see for yourself what the civil engineering program and the civil engineering profession have to offer you!
