Intramurals Game Rules Basketball 5: Officials

Two officials and score keepers will be provided for each game. The officials have jurisdiction over each contest with the authority to eject players, coaches, and/or spectators from the playing area or building for abusing the rules and/or any unsportsmanlike behavior.

  1. Managers must provide the score keepers with a line-up prior to game time or a technical foul will be assessed. The clock will be stopped on the following occasions:
      • for all dead ball situations during the final 2 minutes of the game.
      • for dead ball situations during the entire overtime period.
      • for all time-outs.
      • for all foul (clock stops when team committing the foul is lined-up).
  2. Each team will be allowed three 30-second time-outs and two 20-second time-outs during the entire game. One additional 30-second time-out per team for each overtime period. Any time outs remaining from regulation time are carried over into the overtime.
  3. A jump ball will determine possession of the ball at the beginning of the game. Jump ball situations will alternate thereafter. All overtime periods will begin with a jump ball.
  4. Ten-second back court, 5-second closely guarded (not including the back court), 3-second lane, and 5-second throw-in situations will apply.
  5. Free-throws for common fouls will be taken on the 7th team foul of each half (one and one situation). Two foul shots will be awarded on and after the 10th team foul of each half. A player has fouled out on the fifth foul. All technical fouls count as personal fouls and as a team foul.
  6. All substitutions can only be made during a dead ball situation. Substitutions must report to the score table, kneeling down, and wait to be beckoned on the court by the official. Illegal substitutions result in a technical foul (two foul shots, plus the ball for opposing team), it is also a personal foul and team foul.
  7. Dunking will not be allowed during a game; never during warm-ups, time-outs, or half time. (Penalty Technical Foul, counts as a team foul and personal foul). (EJECTION!)
