While statistics reflected that receiving a college degree was a long shot for Tyrone Obaseki, the former foster child defied odds by receiving a master’s degree this semester.
Obaseki received his Master of Arts degree in Counseling during the recent fall 2012 commencement ceremony. He previously earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University – Commerce in 2010. Obaseki became a foster child at only two months old and aged out of the system when he turned 18.
As a motivational speaker, Obaseki shares his story of overcoming such hurdles as homelessness, abuse and neglect to achieve academic success. His story was recently highlighted by Fox 26 Houston. To learn more about Obaseki’s story, view the news story here.
