PVAMU’S Energy Conservation Tips:

  • Turn off lights in a space whenever it will be unoccupied for more than 15 minutes.

  • Turn off unnecessary equipment including office computers, copiers, and printers at the end of the work day.

  • Set room thermostats within 2 degrees of 74 degrees in summer and 68 degrees in the winter; dress appropriately for seasonal differences.

  • On campus, report uncomfortable building conditions to the Central Utilities Department (ext. 936-261-3880 or 936-261-3868 after hours).

  • Use window blinds to screen out direct sunlight. Open blinds for day lighting and turn off room lighting whenever possible.

  • Laboratory workers should keep fume sashes at a minimum working height after setting up experiments.

  • Keep outside doors and windows closed.

  • Adopt a last-person-out policy. The last person to leave offices, labs, lecture rooms, and meeting rooms should be responsible for turning off unnecessary equipment and lights.

  • If motion sensors are inoperable, report building name and room number to the Maintenance Department (936-261-9720).

  • Report any observed energy waste to Central Utilities (936-261-3880)

  • Report outside lighting problems to Central Utilities (936-261-3880)

  • Do not use hot water when cold water will do. Water & Energy can be saved by washing hands with soap and cold water; hot water should only be added when hands are especially dirty.
