Annual Stuff the Pig Challenge a Student Giving Success

November 12, 2014

“Alumni Giving Starts with Students” is the motto of PVAMU’s Development Office Student Giving Campaign – The Stuff the Pig Challenge.  For the third year in a row, our freshman Panthers exceeded 60 percent participation in giving back to the university!

The campaign is a first-year-focused fundraising initiative in which students are asked to make a small donation. The students donate via their residence hall and each hall competes against the other halls. The resident hall that raises the most money and has the highest percentage of student participation, wins the annual challenge. All donors are asked to submit their name and email address with their gift, as this allows the development staff to identify them as likely donors in the future. “We leverage their {freshmen students} enthusiasm and natural competitive spirit to teach giving behaviors early. The level of giving has also created a ripple effect which screams to students “WE CAN DO THIS COLLECTIVELY” and make an impact,” says Annual Fund Manager, Felicia Lewis.

Building 46 takes the top honors in this year’s Challenge with 100 percent participation and more than $124.00 raised. Under the supervision and guidance of Learning Community Coordinators (LCC) Chauncey Pickens, Jarrel Washington and DeShaun Woods, our future alumni did a tremendous job! In fact, the entire committee of dedicated student volunteers and University College staff committed their time, effort and creativity to make the ongoing campaign a success.

For their accomplishments, building residents will receive custom designed t-shirts and a pizza party.

The Stuff the Pig Challenge has been so successful that the freshman students’ overwhelming enthusiasm for giving back has motivated upperclassman to hold their own student giving campaigns throughout the school year.

All funds raised during the Student Giving Campaign will be used on a student initiative to be determined by the students.
