PVAMU Mourns the Loss of Tyler Dickson

As PVAMU begins its spring break, the University is mourning the loss of former student-athlete Tyler Dickson.

Dickson, a 23 year-old from Duncanville, passed away Tuesday, March 4 at his residence. As an undergraduate, Dickson was a member of the Panther football team, where he was a defensive tackle. He was well-known for his barber skills and served as a barber to many students. Dickson graduated from PVAMU in 2013 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He had begun working toward his master’s degree in business administration and looked forward to opening a business in the Prairie View area. According to family members, Tyler acknowledged that PVAMU played an important role in his life.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of Tyler’s untimely passing. He was a proud member of the PVAMU family and a friend to so many on the campus,” said PVAMU President George C. Wright. “The University extends our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, March 10 at St. John Church Unleashed, 1701 W. Jefferson St., Grand Prairie, Texas. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

The Student Counseling Center is prepared to offer grievance counseling and assistance to the University students, faculty and staff. Those interested should call (936) 261-3564. Students can also contact The Johnson-Phillip All Faiths Chapel at (936) 261-3590 to seek counseling and support.
