After a nationwide search, PVAMU President George C. Wright officially announced that Ashley Robinson will take the helm as athletic director for the University’s sports program.
The selection of Robinson as athletic director concludes a process that has spanned nearly three months after former PVAMU Athletic Director Fred Washington announced he would be stepping down to focus on his role as the vice president of Auxiliary Services.
Robinson is the Mississippi Valley State athletic director and is no stranger to PVAMU. He served as the assistant vice president of Athletic Compliance & Academic Advising for three years before his nine-month stint as the MVSU Athletic Director.
Under his tenure as athletic director, MVSU won Southwestern Athletic Conference championships in men’s cross country, women’s soccer and softball. He will take over a PVAMU Athletics program that has claimed its second-consecutive SWAC Commissioners Cup, which is awarded to the most successful University in terms of athletic achievement each season.
Robinson will hit the ground running when he assumes the post on July 15. He counts his main goal as providing PVAMU with the coaches and resources necessary to continue winning.
Previously, Robinson has served as the SWAC’s assistant commissioner for compliance for two years. He has also worked in compliance and academic services at Jackson State and Delaware State while also serving as a recreational supervisor for the state of Mississippi.
