Larry Jones is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas. He studied music at Arkansas Polytechnic College and Philander Smith College. He was awarded the Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from Tennessee State University, and received the Master of Arts Degree from Eastern Illinois University.

As a percussionist, he has studied with Johnny Lane, Eric Bond, Mohammed Diaby, Kenneth Krause, Jim Wolf, Lee Mosemiller, Harold Murcherson, Robert Steele, and Gene Witherspoon.

Mr. Jones currently teaches Applied Percussion, and is Director of the Prairie View A&M University Percussion Ensemble. In addition he is Assistant Director of the Prairie View A&M University Marching Band, and teaches undergraduate music courses.
