Truscott Receives Doris Duke Impact Award

Dr. Cristal Truscott, department head of Music & Theatre in the Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences, was selected as a recipient of the 2014 Doris Duke Artist Impact Award.

The Impact Awards honor those artists who are influential in the shaping of powerful creative movements in contemporary dance, jazz, theatre and related multidisciplinary work.

Truscott is being recognized for creating a new theatre aesthetic of a capella musical called “Neo-Spirituals” and an artist/acting training methodology developed from African American and African Diasporic performance traditions called “Soulwork.”
