The PVAMU Brand

Prairie View A&M University is the second oldest public institution of higher education in the State of Texas. It is a historically black college/university (HBCU) that, since its inception in 1876, has opened its doors to any and every person – inside and outside of Texas – seeking a quality, first-class, four-year university experience.

The University is situated on one of the most beautiful campuses in the country in a rural part of Texas. We like to say that PVAMU is in the middle of nowhere but the Center of Everywhere. The University is an hour’s drive from Houston (the fourth largest city in the United States), a two-hour drive from Austin, and a three-hour drive from Dallas and San Antonio.
