Study Carrel Policy

The Library houses 24 individual study carrels for use by faculty/staff, doctoral, graduate and undergraduate students. Some of these carrels are reserved for senior undergraduate students doing research or studying for a major graduate level entrance exam. All Faculty/staff or students must show a current Prairie View A&M University I.D. to obtain a study carrel.

The following rules and regulations of the John B. Coleman Library apply to the study carrels:

No food, beverage or smoking is allowed in the building. Library material to be used in the carrel must be properly checked out at the Circulation Desk. Reference materials may not be kept in the carrels. The Library is not responsible for personal items left in the study carrels.

The study carrels are assigned on a first come first served basis at the beginning of each Fall, Spring or Summer session.

A  per semester deposit will be required upon assignment of a study carrel key. If the key is not returned/renewed at the end of each semester/session, a $30.00 re-keying fee will be charged for the replacement of a lost or not returned key. The patron pays the re-keying fee at the Circulation Desk. Upon return of the key or payment of the re-keying fee, the patron will have their record cleared and the study carrel made available for new assignment.
