Clean Access – Getting Started Guide

Before you begin you will need the data encryption key code. Check your email or call the Helpdesk at 936-261-2525 to obtain the key code. You will also need to remove any unlicensed anti-virus software from your computer.


Connecting to the PVAMU Wireless Network

  • Click on the dialog box Wireless networks detected

  • Choose a wireless network

  • Type the Network key (data encryption key code) in both text boxes
  • Click Connect

Installing the Clean Access Agent

Step1: Authentication

  • Open an Internet Browser window; you will be redirected to the PVAMU Wireless Clean Access Authentication page
  • Enter your PVAMU email Username and Password
  • Click Login

Step 2: Client Download

  • Click Download Clean Access Agent

  • Click Run, if prompted with a Security Warning

  • Click Run
  • Click Next in the Clean Access Agent Installation Wizard screen
  • Click Next to accept the default folder location
  • Click Install to begin the installation
  • Click Finish to complete the installation.

Step 3: Execute the Client

  • Enter your PVAMU email User Name and Password
  • Click Login

  • Click Network Usage Terms & Conditions to review
  • Click Accept to accept the Network Usage Terms and Conditions

You must agree to the terms and conditions.
If your machine meets the security requirements, you’ll be granted full network access.

Step 4: Validation Checks

If your computer does not meet the security requirements necessary to grant you access to the PVAMU network, you will be given Temporary Access to the network to correct the problem for only 2 hours. This type of access limits your network connection to sites and services that allow you to correct these security issues.
Instructions for each requirement needing to be met will be given so that you can easily update your computer and get onto the network.

Temporary Access

If you receive the following error message you have been placed in Temporary Access, the Clean Access Client has identified a problem with your system’s minimum security requirements.

  • Read the information provided in the Clean Access Client window.
  • Click Continue and Clean Access Client will inform you of the reason for the denied access.

Anti-Virus Install Check
If your computer does not have a supported antivirus program, you will be prompted to install a free PVAMU copy of McAfee anti-virus software.

  • Click Go To Link. You will be redirected to the ITS Antivirus Tools webpage.

The Antivirus Tools webpage allows you to download McAfee Antivirus and Spyware software. You will be asked to enter your PVAMU email Username and Password

Students:

  1. Click McAfee for Student Home Use under Instructions
  2. Follow the instructions to install McAfee Antivirus and Spyware software

Faculty:

  1. Click McAfee for Faculty & Staff Home Use under Instructions
  2. Follow the instructions to install McAfee Antivirus software.

Once the Antivirus software is installed click Close, login to the Clean Access and complete the verification process.

Anti-Virus Update
If you receive the following error message, your antivirus version is not up-to-date. If you have a licensed version of antivirus software on your computer

  • Click Update. This may take two or three minutes

Once the Antivirus update is complete click Cancel, Login to Clean Access and complete the verification process.

Anti-Spyware Install Check
If your computer does not have a supported antivirus program, you will be prompted to install a free copy of Microsoft Defender anti-spyware software.

  • Click Go To Link. You will be redirected to the ITS Antivirus Tools webpage

  • Enter your PVAMU email Username and Password
  • Click Windows Defender to install the spyware software.

Once the Antivirus update is complete click Cancel, Login to Clean Access to complete the verification process

Windows Updates

If you receive the following error message, you do not have Windows configured to automatically download updates. If automatic updates is enabled, but there are updates that must be downloaded,

  • Click Update and follow the instructions provided. This may take two or three minutes.
  • Once you have installed an antivirus client, click Next to recheck your computer.

Once the Windows updates are installed

  • Click Cancel
  • Restart your computer
  • Login to Clean Access and complete the verification process.
  • Continue this process until all Windows are installed.

If your machine meets the security requirements, you’ll be granted full network access.
