Enabling Automatic Updates

Automatic Updates must be enabled and set to download and prompt for installation on all computers in order to gain internet access.

Please follow the instructions below to enable Automatic updates on a Windows XP machine:

  1. Click Start, (Using the classic Start Menu, click Settings), then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Automatic Updates. If the Automatic Updates is not visible, click Switch to Category View.
  3. Choose between Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them* or, for greater security, select Automatic (recommended) and select the day and time when the automatic installation will occur.
  4. Click Apply to confirm the new setting. Return to the Network Login screen. Click the Next button at the bottom of the page. If you meet all other network requirements, you will be granted network access. If there are other requirements you do not meet, you will be given instructions on what you need to do.

*When notified that new updates are available from Microsoft, install the updates immediately.
