Interfaith Calendar Holiday Descriptions

Interfaith Calendar Holiday

Prairie View A&M University acknowledges and embraces the diversity of our students, faculty, and staff. Throughout the year, The Office of Internal Affairs and International Initiatives offers a series of emails to inform campus community members about key dates associated with the world’s major faiths and philosophies. We hope that this resource provides opportunities for discussion, as well as serves as a reminder of religious or cultural observances in which students, faculty or staff may wish to participate.

Thank you for considering the list below in your planning for the upcoming year. Due to the great number and diversity of viewpoints, this resource is not able provide an exhaustive list of significant dates for all faith and philosophical traditions. Likewise, the practice of special dates may differ based on regional, denominational or generational differences.

To the left is a list of major holidays and observance days. Several days prior to these dates, a reminder email will be sent, along with a brief description and links to learn more.

We encourage students, faculty and staff alike to be proactive in communicating requests for schedule accommodations, so that reasonable efforts can be made to ensure community members are able to observe celebrations central to their faith or cultural practice.
