Student Employment Appreciation Week

April 10, 2017 thru April 13, 2017

PVAMU will celebrate National Student Employment Week,  with our “Student Employee Appreciation Week” by recognizing and rewarding our student employees. This week is an excellent platform for employing departments on the campus to engage in positive, uplifting and encouraging activities with their student employees. Departments and supervisors are encouraged to take time during National Student Employment Week to let their student employees know how much their work is appreciated. Acknowledging their effort motivates, encourages and thanks student employees while providing incentives for them to continue their efforts.


Daily Raffle – Each day the SEO will randomly select an active student employee for our daily $25 Panther Card prize.

4/10 : “Movie Night” – Lights, camera, action! Join us for a free movie night. Visit the following link for registration and additional information!

4/11: “Mini Massages” – 12 active student employees will be randomly selected to receive a 20 minute massage provided by Massage Heights!

4/11 & 4/13: “Resume Workshop” – Come learn the essential skills of creating and maintaining a competitive resume! Bring your existing resume for detailed critiques from our Career Services Department.

4/12: “2nd Annual Bowling Tournament” – “Strike down” some pins at this year’s Bowling Tournament. The tournament will consist of 8 teams, maximum of 8 players on each team (Students and Department Faculty/Staff are Eligible), Registration is on a first come first    serve basis. Other Ways to Celebrate

Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate and show appreciation to your student workers:

  • Have a Pizza Party. Designate a day when the whole staff can get together and order pizza. Include soda and chips and you’re in for a good time!
  • Bring in a sheet cake, cupcakes, or brownies. Have a Desert Party!
  • Organize a Potluck Luncheon to be held in the office. Again, the entire department can take part.
  • Collect assorted goodies (cookies, chocolates, crackers, cheeses, candy, etc) and make a Care Package for your students.
  • Wrap up small bags of jellybeans, chocolate eggs, etc. tie with a ribbon.
  • Have a Chip & Dip Party.
  • Build your own Ice Cream Sundae Party. Bring in a couple of different flavors and toppings. This is something the whole department could take part in.
  • Make a “Wall of Fame” showcasing your employees and their outstanding achievements!
  • Have Office Awards (best dressed, nice hair, most professional, best communicator, etc.)
  • Shout Out Wall
  • A wall of “Thank You” cards showcasing when someone goes out of their way to something for the department
  • Stress Relief Tickets! (Cut parts of bubble wrap in smaller sections and give them to your employees to pop and relieve any stress)

Submit your nominations for “Student Employee of the Year”

Eligible nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an active student employee.
  • GPA must be a 2.5 or higher.
  • Must average 15 work hours or more a week.
  • Nominees will be judged on the following characteristics: exceptional reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism and the uniqueness of the student’s contribution to the department.

The Student Employee of the Year will be awarded a $250 Book Voucher, Certification of Appreciation and a plaque.

Student Employee of the Year, and all selected finalist, will attend a luncheon with the President of Prairie View A&M University on April 13, 2017!
