The Health Education and Promotion program supports medical services mission in an effort to increase health awareness and responsible decision-making regarding healthy lifestyle changes and decreasing risky behaviors. The Health Education and Promotion program provides annual programs such as the Drug Symposium, Dental Fair, National Public Health Week, Go Red DAY, National AIDs Day and many more with the help of peer educators. 

Peer to peer education has proven to be the most effective form of education to encourage change. The health education and promotion program recruits, trains and organizes students to conduct health outreach programs, symposiums, continuous health topic series and activities. We welcome the skills, creativity, questions, ideas and passion of all PVAMU students.

Benefits of becoming a peer educator include but are not limited to:

Panther Phds

Panther PhDs is a recognized student organization sponsored by Health Services, Health Educations and Promotion Program. Panther Promoting Healthy Decisions (PhDs) is designed to educate the PVAMU student body as well as the community about the issues that students face today with drugs, alcohol, sex, stress, hypertension and other related health topics through a host of programs, guest speakers, social activities, and more.

Team SAFE

Safe Sexual Awareness For Everyone (Team SAFE) is a student led advocacy group specializing in topics related to sexual health. The primary goal is to reduce high risk behavior by increasing knowledge concerning STIs and sexual health for the Prairie View A&M University community and monitor the quality of sexual health education delivered by student organizations as stated in the 2019 SGA Bill. Members areas of expertise include STI/STD Education, Sexual Health Awareness, Contraception, HIV/AIDS Education, Proper Condom Use,& Consent.

SAFE Certification

SAFE Certification is a certificate of completion provided by the Team SAFE, Safe Sexual Awareness For Everyone, initiative.  Students become SAFE certified after attending a 4 hour training led by a Team SAFE student member.

To ensure accurate sexual health information is provided during student led programs, all sexual health programs conducted by a student organization must have a member who has completed the Team SAFE certification training.
