Funding Your Graduate Education

There are multiple methods by which graduate and professional students can fund their graduate degree at Prairie View A&M University. Funding is available in the form of loans, scholarships, and assistantships.

PV Opportunity Graduate Student Scholarship

The PV Opportunity Graduate Student Scholarship provides financial support for new and currently enrolled students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees. Several scholarships are available to students who are enrolled in the Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions. Scholarships are based on merit and financial need. The Financial Aid and Scholarships portal for the 2019-2020 application is now closed.

The Summer 2019 scholarship application is now closed as The deadline was May 17, 2019, by 5:00 PM. Applications are now being reviewed and recipients will be contacted shortly. Please contact the Office of Graduate Studies at (936) 261-3518 with any questions.

PVAMU Doctoral Tuition & Fee Waiver Program 2019-2020

The PVAMU Doctoral Tuition and Fee Waiver Program covers tuition and fees for full-time enrolled students pursuing doctoral degrees. New and continuing students must complete the 2019-2020 application and submit all required documents to the Office of Graduate Studies. The doctoral waiver covers in-state tuition and most fees for graduate students who meet the following requirements:

  • Must be enrolled full-time (minimum of nine semester credit hours during the fall and spring, six hours during the summer) in a doctoral program;
  • Must be in good academic standing (3.00 Cumulative GPA);
  • Must be employed on campus, preferably in a Graduate Assistantship position;
  • Must submit a complete application packet, which includes the completed PVAMU Doctoral Tuition and Fee Waiver application, employment offer letter, copy of current term enrollment, and copy of university tuition and fee statement*.

*Students who are anticipating an out-of-state tuition waiver should submit a fee bill only after the out-of-state waiver has been applied to their account.

PVAMU Financial Aid

The return on investment from a college education cannot be beaten, however increasing costs associated with higher education requires a major commitment from students and their families. The Office for Financial Aid and Scholarships works to ensure that students are able to achieve their educational goals by offering a wide range of resources and information. Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Teaching and Non-Teaching Assistantships are managed by the schools and colleges. These appointments are available for full-time, currently enrolled graduate students. For more information on assistantships, please contact your academic program office.

Panther Employee Scholarship Exemption Program

The purpose of the Panther Employee Scholarship/Exemption Program is to provide financial support to faculty, staff, spouses or dependents of eligible employees who wish to obtain a degree or certification from Prairie View A&M University. External Funding

Private Loans

Private loans are funding that students receive from lending institutions outside of the federal government. Contact your bank or credit union to inquire details regarding these types of loans.

Employer Scholarships/ Tuition Reimbursement

Does your employer have a scholarship or tuition reimbursement program? Many companies offer assistance to employees who enroll in advance degree programs. Contact your human resources or employee development office to inquire.
