Financial Aid Scholarships

The Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships have prepared the following list for information purposes.
Please contact the respective department for additional information regarding these scholarships.

The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships manages an array of scholarships for which future and current undergraduate and graduate students from all academic disciplines are eligible to apply. General University Scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement and financial need, and selection is highly competitive.

Types of Scholarships

Class scholarships are made available through the generous donations of that alumni class. These honorable scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and students who wish to be considered for these scholarships must complete the general scholarship application.

Endowed Scholarships are made available to current students through funding generated by the foundations established in honorable memory of notable alumni, friends, and contributors of Prairie View A&M University. These scholarships are primarily awarded by the varying colleges and departments of the University. Select endowments may be awarded through the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships through completion of the General Scholarship Application.

The Prairie View A&M University Alumni Association offers scholarships made available to new and returning students through funding generated by the various chapters of the Prairie View A&M University National Alumni Association. All students who wish to be considered for scholarships offered through the alumni association must complete the general scholarship application in addition to completing any mandated applications required by that specific alumni chapter.

Application Deadlines

The general scholarship application is made available annually during the Spring semester for consideration of scholarship funding for the ensuing academic year. Students may not apply for scholarship funding through the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships after the deadline has passed. Only students who have submitted the application will be considered for scholarship funding.

Summer 2015 Session: March 1, 2015

Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 Semesters: March 15, 2015

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for any institutional scholarship offered through the General Scholarship Application, a student must:

Incoming Freshmen/Transfer Students

  • Be successfully admitted to the university;
  • Plan to enroll as a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student and for the upcoming aid year in which scholarship funding is being applied
  • Have a minimum cumulative high school/transfer GPA of 2.75 and;
  • Plan to register as a full-time student for the Fall/Spring semesters in a minimum of 12 credit hours for undergraduate and six (6) credit hours for graduate students or in a minimum of three (3) credit hours for one summer term.

Returning Students

  • Plan to enroll as a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student for the upcoming aid year in which scholarship funding is being applied;
  • Have a minimum cumulative and prior Spring GPA of 2.75 and returning students are required to meet satisfactory academic progress standards to be considered for scholarship funding and;
  • Plan to register as a full-time student for the Fall/Spring semesters in a minimum of 12 credit hours for undergraduate and six (6) credit hours for graduate students or in a minimum of three (3) credit hours for one summer term.

Selection Process

The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships will review all applications and consider the merit of the applicant’s academic achievement, recommendations, and financial need. All awards are made for the upcoming Fall and Spring Semesters through the general scholarship application. All students are encouraged to seek alternative scholarship opportunities through their department as well as through outside resources as submission of an application does not guarantee an award. A majority of the scholarships offered through the Office of Student Financial and Scholarships require that the student be eligible to receive federal student aid and demonstrate a financial need, however, all students are encouraged to apply.

Award Information

All General University Scholarships are awarded for one year only and are non-renewable. Students are encouraged to reapply annually for consideration. Individual scholarship awards range from $500 – $2,000 based upon criteria detail and availability of funding.

Award Notification

Any student elected to receive a scholarship will be notified via their student PantherTracks account pending all admission and financial aid requirements have been satisfied prior to the notification date. Applicants should not contact the office, as notifications will be sent directly to those who have been awarded scholarship funding.

*All current and future students are encouraged to submit the General Scholarship Application for consideration of scholarship funding. Students should also complete any applicable departmental scholarship applications for consideration of additional funding to assist with educational expenses.
