Summer School Requirements

If you plan to take summer courses and would like to be considered for financial aid, make sure you have completed the following:

  • Have filled out the 2015-2016 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you have received financial aid for the Fall/Spring semesters before summer, you will not need to complete a new FAFSA to receive summer financial aid.
  • Register for at least 6 hours of coursework for one session or 6 hours of coursework over the period of both sessions.
  • Continue to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Summer financial aid is extremely limited.  Some students may have remaining federal aid that was NOT used in full during the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters.  Institutional aid may be awarded based upon availability of funding.

Summer General Scholarships Requirements

2016 General Scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement and financial need. The selection process is highly competitive, therefore, to be considered for an institutional scholarship offered through the Summer 2016 General Scholarship Application, a student must:

  • Must have completed a Summer General Scholarship application by April 1st.
  • Be enrolled as a degree seeking undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Must plan to enroll in a minimum of 3 semester credit hours for one summer term.

For New Freshman/Transfer Students:

  • Have a minimum cumulative high school/transfer GPA of 2.75

For Continuing Students:

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and meet satisfactory academic progress (SAP) standards.

Students who are enrolled for the full summer term will receive their loans in two separate disbursements:

  • The first will disburse at the beginning of the term
  • The second will disburse at the midpoint of the term

Refund inquiries should be directed to Treasury Services.

Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans may be available to students who have not already borrowed their annual maximums for the year (see below for annual Stafford loan limits).
