Senate Committees

      Executive Committee
According the Faculty Senate Constitution, the Executive Committee shall be composed of the speaker, vice-speaker, immediate past speaker, secretary, treasurer and three additional members elected annually by the Faculty Senate from its membership. Committee members shall serve from May 1 of the elected year to April 30 of the following year. The Executive Committee shall act for the Faculty Senate for the purpose of making nominations of faculty members to serve on University and System Committees. Nominations for such committees will be subject to approval of the Faculty Senate at any regular or special meeting.

      Standing Committee on Faculty Research & Development
Committee on Faculty Development. This committee is charged with the preparation of detailed written reports on the progress of faculty research and development of the university, shall assess the implication of the programs designed for advancing faculty research and development, and shall make recommendations to the Senate regarding the priorities for staff development.

      Standing Committee on Faculty Promotion, Tenure, & Due Process
This committee shall be responsible for recommending standards and procedures for granting tenure and promotion. The committee shall also make recommendations to the president on tenure policy.
     The committee shall also serve as an advisory committee on due process complaints of faculty when requested by a faculty member or the President of the University. In such cases, the committee’s investigations and findings shall be confidential and may be reported only to the complainant or the President. The committee may recommend a formal due process hearing or other appropriate action.

      Standing Committee on University Facilities
This committee shall be a standing committee charged with representing the interests of the faculty to the University Facilities Committee.
     The purview of this committee includes, but is not restricted to, such areas as planning of instructional or research buildings, access to buildings by faculty and students, security of buildings, allocation and use of parking areas, and development and enforcement of the traffic regulations. The chairperson of this committee shall be elected from its membership and shall serve a one-year term.

      Standing Committee on Committees
This committee shall be elected by the Faculty Senate from its own members. This committee, subject to approval by the Faculty Senate, shall nominate appropriate individuals from the faculty to serve on any university-wide committee. This committee is also charged with assessing the status of shared governance at the university and shall make recommendations to the Senate regarding the role of faculty in all levels of university decision-making.

      Standing Committee on Enrollment, Retention, and Matriculation
This standing committee is charged with representing the interests of the faculty to the administrative bodies responsible for enrollment, retention, and matriculation.  It shall report to the Senate on existing procedures and issues related to enrollment, retention, and matriculation; and, with the input and consent of the Senate, make recommendations to the appropriate administrative bodies regarding these issues and procedures.
      This committee is also responsible for facilitating and overseeing any cooperation between administration and faculty on initiatives and procedures related to enrollment, retention, and matriculation

      Standing Committee on Student Recruitment
This standing committee is charged with representing the interests of the faculty to the administrative bodies responsible for student recruitment.  It shall report to the Senate on existing procedures and issues related to recruitment and, with the input and consent of the Senate, make recommendations to the appropriate administrative bodies regarding these issues and procedures.
      This committee is also responsible for facilitating and overseeing any cooperation between administration and faculty on initiatives and procedures related to recruitment.

      Ad Hoc Committee on the Faculty Handbook
This ad hoc committee will be assembled whenever a majority of the Senate deems it necessary to review and/or revise the Faculty Handbook.  When it is assembled, it will receive its charge from a motion or series of motions passed by the Senate.

      Standing Committee on Compliance of Rules and Procedures
This standing committee is charged with investigating and reporting on any violation of university rules or procedures that is brought to its attention by any administrator or faculty member, though complaints related to promotion and tenure shall be excluded from its purview.  It is also charged with addressing any complaints about the fairness or effectiveness of the rules and procedures themselves.  The committee shall act in an advisory capacity in addressing any alleged violations of university rules and procedures or any systemic flaws in university rules and procedures.

      Standing Committee on Salaries, Benefits, & Budgets
This standing committee is charged with reviewing and reporting on all issues related to faculty salaries and benefit plans as well as university budget priorities.  With regard to these issues, it is responsible for representing the interests of the faculty to the appropriate administrative bodies and recommending appropriate courses of action.

      Standing Committee on Faculty Communications & Relations
This standing committee is charged with facilitating communications between the Senate and faculty at large.  It is responsible for managing the existing channels of communication but also for critically assessing those channels and recommending any changes or improvements.  It will report regularly to the Senate on the various concerns that have been raised by faculty members and assure that these concerns are directed to and taken up by the appropriate committee or taskforce.

      Standing Committee on Senate Elections
This standing committee is charged with managing nominations and elections of senators and, within the senate, of the members of the Executive Committee.  It will also periodically review the procedures for nominations and elections and recommend any necessary changes to the Senate.
      This committee is also responsible for periodically reviewing the records of all senators related to attendance and committee participation and making recommendations to the Senate regarding any need for recall votes as outlined within the Senate constitution.
