This conference, held at the College of Nursing, brought together educators, researchers, medical professionals, clergy, and  other professionals involved in addiction treatment and recovery.   The rapid increase in the use of prescription and non-prescription opioids in the United States makes this conference timely.  Simultaneously, poverty and other socioeconomic factors have exacerbated the prevalence of substance abuse overall in African-American communities since the Vietnam War.  To tackle these challenges, the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center (TJCPC) offers nine, 2-hour substance prevention workshops, and our staff has traveled extensively throughout the state offering these workshops to those who work with or have adolescents.  These workshops were created and led by Dr. Angela Broadus, Training Specialist in the TJCPC.  For information about upcoming workshops, please contact Dr. Broadus at 936-261-5258 or adbroadus@pvamu.edu.  Please see link about the summit.
