PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (November 15, 2019) – Faculty, staff, and students at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) now have free access to a data archive of more than 250,000 files of research in the social and behavioral sciences in the Inter-Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) data holdings.

ICPSR is the world’s most extensive collection of digital social science data. More than 750 academic institutions and research organizations are connected to ICPSR, which provides leadership and training in data access, curation, and methods of analysis for the social science research community.

ICPSR’s data can be used for secondary research, instructional activities, and to write articles, papers, and theses. It can also be used as introductory support material in grant proposals. In the classroom, instructors can use ICPSR’s educational resources to introduce students to the principles and practices of data analysis to support quantitative literacy efforts.

ICPSR data covers topics from sociology, political science, economics, demography, education, childcare, health care, crime, minority populations, aging, terrorism, substance abuse, mental health, public policy, international relations, and more. There are 21 specialized collections of data including DataLumos, an archive for valuable government data resources; the National Addiction & HIV Data Archive Program, which acquires, preserves and disseminates data relevant to drug addiction and HIV research; and the Resource Center for Minority Data, whose mission is to provide educators, researchers, and students with data resources so that they can produce analysis of issues affecting racial and ethnic minority populations in the United States.

PVAMU faculty, staff, and students can access the ICPSR website and create a login at www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb. A webinar will be hosted on Nov. 20 in PVAMU’s John B. Coleman Library.

Questions can be emailed to PVAMU’s Official Representative, Dr. Susan Frazier-Kouassi.
