Position Title: Inland Fisheries Natural Resource Specialist I-IV (Fisheries Research Biologist)

Agency: Inland Fisheries Division, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD)
Job Location: Heart of the Hills Fisheries Science Center, Mountain Home, TX

 

Position Description: With the guidance of a Project Leader, the incumbent is responsible for planning and conducting applied freshwater fisheries research to better understand and manage fisheries and aquatic resources in the state. Working in a team environment, the successful applicant will develop and conduct field and/or laboratory studies; analyze fisheries, habitat, and watershed data; evaluate management strategies for natural resources; and disseminate research findings through presentations and peer-reviewed scientific articles. Assists in directing a team of permanent technicians, and/or seasonal workers, interns and volunteers. Represents the Fisheries Science Center on various Division task forces or review boards as needed. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

 
Working Conditions: (1) Required to occasionally work beyond a normal eight hour day, including weekends and nights; (2) Required to travel throughout the state; (3) Required to perform physically demanding duties, potentially in inclement weather; (4) Required to fully participate in water-based field activities; (5) Non-tobacco environment in State buildings and vehicles.
 
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Experience Qualifications, License/Certifications and full details at http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/business/jobs/postings/?page=10_01_007    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in biology, ecology, wildlife or fisheries science, or one of the natural sciences. Preferred Qualifications: Graduate Degree from an accredited college or university in fisheries science or related biological science.
