PROFESSIONAL AND HONOR SOCIETIES
Department Sponsored Student Organizations
Student organizations play an important role in helping students to adjust to the responsibilities of their profession and in recognizing high academic achievement. Students are encouraged to become active members of the organizations sponsored by the department. The department sponsors the following organizations:
Society of Petroleum Engineers (S.P.E.) – Student Chapter. This chapter is a part of the national Society of Petroleum Engineers organization. The SPE is an international technical/professional organization dedicated to the advancement of technology associated with oil and gas exploration, production, refining, and processing. Student membership provides students the opportunity to meet practicing professionals and active members in the industry while still attending school.
Society for Biological Engineers - Student Chapter. The mission of this organization is to promote the integration of biology with engineering and realize its benefits through bioprocessing, biomedical and biomolecular applications.
National Organization for the Advancement of Black Chemist and Chemical Engineers (NOBCCHE) - Student Chapter. NOBCChE is committed to the discovery, transmittal, and application of knowledge in the fields of science and engineering. The mission of NOBCChE therefore is to build an eminent community of scientists and engineers by increasing the number of minorities in these fields.
College Sponsored Organizations
Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society
Texas Kappa Chapter, is a college-wide organization designed to support, augment, and supplement the educational and professional development of students.
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
Prairie View Student Branch, is a professional society open for membership to female students majoring in an engineering curriculum at the university. The chapter is affiliated with the national professional engineering body, the Society of Women Engineers. The society fosters the intellectual, professional, personal and social development of student members.
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
Prairie View A&M chapter, is a professional society open to all students in the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering. The chapter fosters intellectual and professional development among its members and promotes growth and entry of more minority persons into the engineering profession
