Students Can Expect From Employers…

  1. Confidentiality: Employers are expected to maintain confidentiality of student information, regardless of the source, including personal knowledge, written records/reports, and computer databases. Employers should not disclose information about students to another organization without prior written consent of the student.
  1. Accurate Information: Employers are expected to provide accurate information about their organization and employment opportunities. This includes, but is not limited to, positions available, responsibilities, and benefits of employment.
  1. Freedom From Undue Pressure: Employers are expected to provide students with reasonable time to make a decision about accepting an employment offer. They are also expected to provide students with a reasonable process for making decisions. For example, an unreasonable process is one in which a student is told a job offer is good for a certain time period, while not telling the student that the same offer has been made to another student, and the one who accepts first gets the job.
  1. Timely Communication: Employers are expected to inform students of their status in the hiring process, and should communicate hiring decisions within the agreed-upon time frame.
  1. Testing Information: Employers should inform students in advance of any testing, the purpose of the tests, and policies regarding disclosure of test results.
