Stem Camps

Jr. Youth Leadership Lab is a four-day non-residential day camp hosted by the College of Agriculture and Human Science Cooperative Extension 4-H (Head, Hands, Heart, and Health) Program. Jr. YLL is open to under-served youth entering the 7th-8th grades. Activities will focus on agriculture-related careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and discovery, developing, and honing leadership skills to enter the workforce. Registration is limited to the first 30 applications received.

Lunch and snacks are provided.

Youth Leadership Lab: College and Career Awareness Camp is a multi-day, virtual summer program for underserved teens in grades 8 through 11 in the State of Texas. The 4-H and Youth Development Unit of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M University hosts this camp to introduce young people to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers in agriculture. There are two overarching goals of this program: 1) to increase the likelihood of youth from historically under-served and underrepresented populations to pursue enrollment in post-secondary education and 2) to provide an awareness of and encourage interest in pursuing careers in food, agriculture, natural resources, and human (FANH) careers. These goals are parallel to the mission of S.A.L.E., Inc. by focusing on educating and developing the youth of Texas for careers in agriculture.

Application

Camp Third Coast is a four-day, non-residential day camp for rising 5th and 6th graders. The camp will focus on environmental science and introduce youth to the environmental justice issues in Houston and surrounding cities. Students will be challenged to think critically about environmental issues and create an action plan as a response.

Activities include field trips to Galveston and ChallengeWorks (Bryan, TX.)

Halliburton’s Girls Techno Summer Camp

To increase female participation in engineering and computer science, the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering at Prairie View, will be conducting a three-day residential summer camp open to female students that are going into their junior and senior year of high school. This summer camp is designed to teach skills to build confidence and inspire participants to become engineers and leaders who make a difference.

Over the course of 3 days our participates will be exposed to design thinking, computer programming, data science, artificial intelligence, or robotics through hands-on projects and lectures by faculty role models. Camp participants will create design projects by brainstorming, testing, and prototype building.

Panther S.T.E.M Camp

The Panther STEM Residential High School Career Explorations Camp is an overnight camp available for high school students in grades 9-12. Participants can expect a fun and busy week as STEM career options open up before them. STEM Career campers will experience dorm life by living in the University College and enjoying meals in the Memorial Student Center Cafeteria. Campers will have the opportunity to interact with professionals and students in many STEM fields throughout the day.

UMA Summer College Prep

The Texas Undergraduate Medical Academy will be providing a 4-day college preparation overnight camp featuring academic workshops in math, English, research, time management, professionalism, and study skills. The program is designed for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine or the health sciences. During the camp, participants will have the opportunity to learn from our highly qualified faculty and staff, talk to UMA alumni and current students, participate in games and activities, and take a day trip to visit a medical school.

Darden-Caldwell LeadHERship Series for Girls 2024 Summer Camp

The Darden-Caldwell LeadHERship Series for Girls 2024 Summer Camp will be held on the PVAMU campus for 5 days of interactive sessions, information, meeting professionals, and FUN! You will have the chance to meet and talk with some amazing women as well as PVAMU college students; and the chance to tour the PVAMU campus and have exposure to a bit of college life.

College and Career Camps

AgDiscovery is a free summer outreach program to help teenagers explore careers in agricultural and nutrition related sciences. This program is a two-week residential summer enrichment program targeting current 9th – 12th-grade students from across the United States interested in the agricultural, nutrition, and related sciences. Students will engage in hands-on lab experiences, workshops, field trips, and food demonstrations that raise awareness of career opportunities and academic programs affiliated with agriculture, nutrition, and related sciences.

The Research Extension Apprenticeship Program is a two-week residential program designed to provide rising high school juniors and seniors with meaningful hands-on experiences and insight related to research, education, and careers in the Food, Nutrition, and Agricultural Sciences. Students will also have an opportunity to increase their skill level as they participate in field experiences that will further expose them to the world of Agriculture and get a glimpse of college life.

REAP Requires the Following

  • Two Letters of Recommendation from counselors, principals, teachers, or community leaders.

The Young Business Leaders (YBL) Summer Program is a week-long residential program designed to introduce talented high school students to the field of business and career options. Students are challenged to solve problems using basic business principles taught in the program by PVAMU business faculty and through interaction with business students. Enriching presentations, experiential learning exercises, and projects inspire and motivate students to aspire to careers in marketing, accounting, entrepreneurship, management, finance, and information systems.

Financial Planning Academy, developed by Texas Tech University and funded by Charles Schwab Foundation, is a summer program that offers rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors education, and training in the core areas of personal financial management. The week will include working in small teams on a financial planning case study, developing a financial plan, and participating in other competitions for scholarships and prizes. In addition to promoting financial literacy among America’s youth, the camp will provide insight into the Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) industry and show students the value of financial planning as a profession.

This program will be hosted at Prairie View A&M University providing a remarkable opportunity to connect with college students, faculty, and career professionals.

ARTEC is offered to high school Freshman through Junior students (ages 15 – 17) interested in exploring architecture, construction science, art, and digital media arts. ARTEC is offered by the School of Architecture. Students will stay on campus for one week, work on design projects, and be prepared to work on the graphic design of the interactive media of the building design.

Architecture: Architecture is the art and science of designing and constructing buildings and other physical structures. Students interested in architecture will explore the principles of architectural design, spatial planning, aesthetics, and the technical aspects of creating structures that are functional, safe, and visually appealing. They may work on design projects, learn about architectural history, and gain hands-on experience in creating architectural models and drawings.

Construction Science: Construction science is a field that focuses on the planning, management, and execution of construction projects. Students interested in construction science will learn about project management, construction techniques, materials, and technology used in the building industry. They may also gain practical experience in construction project planning and execution, including cost estimation, scheduling, and quality control.

Digital Media Arts: Digital Media Arts encompasses various forms of design and art, using digital and/or traditional tools and technology. Students will explore the creative thinking process, concept development, and various ideation techniques to develop visual and engaging content. Students will likely work on projects that include graphic design, animation, and/or game development.

Is there an Engineer inside of you?

Engineers are involved in designing virtually everything we use today from our cars, computers, and cell phones to bridges, skyscrapers, and video games. Do you know which engineer is involved in each? What does an engineer do? How does an engineer’s day differ from a scientist’s day? In our engineering camps, your child will turn into a real engineer; designing, evaluating, and redesigning machines and superstructures. Every project will have a clever theme to spark your child’s imagination and turn problem-solving and skill-building into a fun game.

Whimsical Week

Whimsical Week will offer fun instructional activities for children ages six to twelve. The program will expose children to multiple disciplines with the use of technology. Children will be encouraged to participate in daily Zoom sessions, share their experiences, and ask questions about Reading & Cultural Awareness, S.T.E.M., Music & Dance, and Health & Wellness.
