Welcome to the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences. Our College, the division of land-grant programs at Prairie View A&M University, is training our students to enter careers in the human sciences, animal, crop and the environmental sciences, and agricultural and resource economics. We have a deep sense of responsibility and are committed to use our talents to apply knowledge that will help advance our state in the global economy. Our faculty members are finding new and creative ways to develop educated and productive citizens.
Our researchers are increasing the shelf life of milk, protecting fruits against sun rays, removing allergens from peanuts, and developing strategies to enhance watershed functions in a sustainable way. All these activities are geared toward meeting needs and changing lives of Texans through the Cooperative Extension Program.
Our Cooperative Extension Program delivers programs at thirty five extension offices across Texas directly reaching eight million limited-resource citizens. As a member of The Texas A&M University System, we work in strong partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in program planning and delivery to the citizens of Texas in four areas. The program areas are: (1) Family & Consumer Sciences, (2) Agriculture & Natural Resources, (3) Community & Economic Development and (4) 4-H & Youth Development. Further, our coordinated efforts to reach limited-resources audiences in our state are strongly supported by our county and local governments.
Our College is undergoing a tremendous structural change. We have embarked on the construction of a new academic facility that will house the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences and the College of Business; construction of a comprehensive agricultural facility that will house an equestrian/livestock center for teaching, research and extension activities, greenhouses for ornamental and medicinal plant production, and agribusiness incubators; and are remodeling facilities at our International Goat Research Center.
I invite you to visit our college or peruse through our website to discover the many ways we serve the public.
