The 2018 Annual Chili Cook-Off Competition organized by Prairie View Trail Riders Association (PVTRA) took place at Kilpatrick’s Place, 22063 FM 1098 Prairie View, TX 77445, an open field west of the Prairie View A&M University Panthers’ football stadium on Monday, February 19.

Ripendra Awal, Chandra Adams, and Ali Fares were among several members of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences who participated in this event, met participants and interacted with them. Once the judging was finished, bowls of chili were sold to the public. This event attracted hundreds of chili enthusiasts this year. Proceeds from the competition benefitted Agricultural Student Clubs on Prairie View A&M University Campus.

2018 Annual Chili Cookoff Competition (2)It’s important to note that Prairie View Trail Riders Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1957 by Alfred N. Poindexter, James Francies, and Myrtis Dightman, Sr. to promote agricultural interests in young African Americans and foster the continued preservation of western heritage and culture.

During this event, Mr. Myrtis Dightman, Jr. the Boss of the group, met Dr. Ali Fares, Interim Dean and Director of Land Grant Programs, and discussed opportunities in strengthening collaboration between PVTRA and PVAMU-CAHS.
