International Citrus Congress flyerDr. Ali Fares, Associate Director of Research at the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center, has been invited as a keynote speaker for the International Citrus Congress (ICC), which will be held in Foz do Iguaçu, PR – Brazil from September 18-23, 2016. The ICC is a venue where researchers working on citrus from all over the globe gather every four years to discuss latest research findings and issues related to citrus.

Fares’ keynote will provide a global perspective on the current status and upcoming challenges for citrus water management in an ever changing environment. The speech will also examine the potential impacts of climate change on citrus water requirements across some of the major citrus producing areas in the world, e.g., Africa (Cape Town, South Africa), Asia (Mersin, Turkey), Australia (Riverland, Australia), Mediterranean (Nabeul, Tunisia), North America (Riverside, California; Fort Pierce and Lake Alfred, Florida; and Brownsville, Texas), and South America (Sao Paulo, Brazil). The focus will be on potential effects in the mid- and late 21st century and under different potential climate change scenarios based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fifth Assessment Report (IPCC AR5).
