Eight CAHS majors are spending part of their summer on internships with the National Park Service (NPS) as ProRanger Cadets. The NPS is an internationally recognized public land management agency, and PVAMU students have a direct pathway to career opportunities in the Federal Government. According to Dr. Lavell Merritt, Jr., ProRanger Program Manager, Texas A&M University, CAHS students are uniquely prepared for the occupation as a US Park Ranger due to the education and experience received from PVAMU. Many of these students are interested in working outdoors and have solid knowledge of resource conservation/management.

This summer’s internships for PVAMU students have included locations such as the Colorado National Monument, Dinosaur National Monument, Lyndon Baines Johnson National Historical Park, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Padre Island National Seashore, and Yellowstone National Park.

ProRanger is a two-year recruitment, leadership development, and academic training intake program. The goal is to increase relevancy of the NPS and retain career diverse National Park Service law enforcement park rangers.
