MBA Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When are MBA classes offered?
A.  Classes are offered on weekends and in the evenings.  Evening classes begin around 6:00 p.m. and are offered once a week.

Q. Is the GMAT required prior to admission?
A. The GMAT is not required for admission.  Students may be provisionally admitted without a GMAT score, but must take the GMAT before the end of their first semester.

Q.  Does the PVAMU College of Business accept the GRE?
A.  Yes, we accept both the GRE and the GMAT

Q.  Is there a minimum GMAT or GRE Score?
A.  The admissions committee considers the application package in its entirety.  Applicants are encouraged to submit the best application they possibly can.

Q. Is there a minimum undergraduate GPA requirement?
A. The minimum undergraduate GPA is 2.50. for provisional admission.  Please contact the director of the graduate programs in business at (936) 261-9215 for additional information.

Q. I saw three different programs listed:  MBA, Online MBA and Executive MBA.  What’s the difference?
A. Students have very different needs.  View the 2016-2017 MBA Program Comparison Guide for details.

Q.  If I am enrolled in the Online MBA Program, will my degree say, “Online MBA”?
A.  No.  Once the requirements are satisfied, your degree will be a Master of Business Administration.

Q. Do I need an undergraduate business degree?
A. No. Many of our students have undergraduate degrees in other fields of study such as liberal arts or engineering.

Q. Is this an accredited MBA program?
A. Prairie View A&M University College of Business is fully accredited by AACSB International, the premier accrediting agency for bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral degree programs in business administration. Many other popular online MBA programs do not have this level of accreditation.

Q. How many courses are required?
A.  Twelve (12) semester-long courses are required (36 hours). We offer classes in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Many students complete the MBA program in two years. (Additional courses may be required if you do not have a recent undergraduate business degree.)

Q. How much does it cost?

Q. Is financial aid available?
A. Yes. Eligible students must enroll in at least six (6) hours as a graduate student at Prairie View A&M University and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. PVAMU’s Federal School Code is: 003630.

Q. Does the College of Business offer scholarships?
A. Yes. Scholarships are competitive and awarded for the fall and spring semesters. Students need to apply for a College of Business scholarship at least one semester before they expect to receive funds. Scholarship applications are available beginning February 1, for the fall semester and beginning August 1, for the spring semester. Applications are available via the website.

Q.  When are the deadlines to apply for admission?
A.  Summer Admission – March 1; Fall Admission – May 1; Spring Admission – October 1.  Deadlines for International Students are typically one month prior the regular deadline for admission.

Q.  How much are the application fees?  Can I pay them online?
A.  The application fee is $50; for late applications, an additional fee is assessed.  Prospective students can pay their application fees through Treasury Services or online at

Q. Where is Prairie View A&M University?
A. The main campus is located in Waller County approximately 40 miles northwest of Houston and one mile north of US Highway 290 on FM 1098.  The College of Nursing facility is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. Prairie View A&M University recently purchased an academic facility in northwest Harris County; the two-story building, near Tomball Parkway and FM 1960, is located at 9449 Grant Road north of Willowbrook Mall.  MBA courses are taught face-to-face at the PVAMU Northwest Houston Center.
