Spring break conjures up images of fun, adventure and ocean breezes.  What about an ocean breeze from Cape Town, South Africa?

Eleven business students and two faculty, Dr. Lawrence McNeil and Mr. Danny Harvey, extended their view by spending spring break in South Africa.  The group traveled to Johannesburg, Soweto and Cape Town to experience the rich South African culture and broaden their knowledge of the economy.  Part of the study abroad excursion included a trip to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Samsung South Africa and Development Bank of Southern Africa.  It wasn’t all business as students also toured Robben Island, Table Mountain, Nelson Mandela House and Lion Park Safari.

These types of opportunities pair well with the college’s mission to prepare students to become business professionals and leaders who are ethical, entrepreneurial, productive, and prepared to succeed in the global economy. In order to participate on the trip, students had to be enrolled in ECON 3313 (Economic Development) or MGMT 4993 (Business Environment of Emerging Markets) where the focus of course was on the economy of South Africa.  The College of Business is grateful for the support from the PVAMU Office of International Affairs for their support.
