Prairie View A&M stumbles at TCU in opening round of WNIT

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Prairie View A&M women’s basketball team was unable to sustain a strong start as the Lady Panthers fell 72-41 at Texas Christian University during the opening round of the Women’s NIT in Schollmaier Arena.

The Lady Panthers end the season at 17-14. TCU improved to 21-10 with the win.

Artavia Ford led the Lady Panthers with 12 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks. Keyanna Tolbert added six points. Shala Dobbins, PVAMU’s leading scorer throughout the season, was held scoreless as she was limited to just eight minutes of action.

Down 12-4 midway through the first quarter, Prairie View closed the quarter on a 9-1 run to tie the game, with Ford draining a pair of jumpers to help spark the rally.

However, TCU opened the second quarter with eight unanswered points, ultimately outscoring the Lady Panthers 13-3 in the period to open a 34-16 lead. The Lady Panthers were unable to recover, as the Horned Frogs used a 16-4 run to start the second half, resulting in a 46-20 lead that held the rest of the way.

Kianna Ray led TCU with 19 points and four assists. Jordan Moore added 14 points, and Yummy Morris scored 10 points.
