Researcher and physics professor Orion Ciftja, along with recently graduated PVAMU physics students, Giancarlo Paredes and Myegan Griffin, have had their work published in Physica Scripta, a leading Physics journal published by the IOP on behalf of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for the Science Academies and the Physical Societies of the Nordic Countries.
According to Professor Ciftja, his team’s research focused on the properties of interacting electronic systems has both theoretical and practical applications. “Many novel correlated electronic phases have not been studied very well. Therefore, there are potential ramifications of this type of study that could impact how we develop and create electronic sensors- such as those used in electronic clocks, infrared devices, microphones- and other highly sensitive electronic systems.”
Ciftja said that he often involves promising physics majors in his research and that both Paredes and Griffin have gone on to study at the graduate level. “I am extremely proud of this research, but I am even prouder that our students were able to contribute at such a high level and be published. This is wonderful for them as they continue to pursue their careers in science and it’s equally wonderful for the university as it shines a spotlight on our physics program.”
