PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (December 3, 2019) – Prairie View A&M University’s Office for Marketing and Communications, in conjunction with KPVU 91.3 FM, kicked off a new season of The Overview. The rebranded monthly podcast (which initially launched in the spring) highlights research, innovations, and recent accomplishments from faculty, staff, and students on “The Hill.”

The first episode focuses on the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering. During the show, host Mark Angel sits down with Dean Pamela Obiomon to discuss her vision for moving the college forward and her efforts to enhance the student experience.

“One of my greatest joys as dean is seeing our students navigate through our curriculum, graduate, and become experts in their fields,” Obiomon, ’93, shared in The Dean’s View.

In the Alumni Avenue segment, Kara Branch, ’15, and Vewiser (VJ) Turner, ’79, talk about significant career achievements and how PVAMU equipped them to be leaders.

Turner, who currently teaches in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at PVAMU, spent 35 years at ExxonMobil and achieved executive ranks before retiring in 2017.

“After retiring from Exxon, I wanted to come back to PVAMU and impart some of my knowledge and things I’ve learned in the industry to help students be more successful upon graduating from this great university,” he said.

In Departmental Developments, Lijun Qian, a professor in the college’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, shares more information about the latest innovation projects happening in the college, including artificial intelligence, big data, and machine learning. Qian is joined by graduate student Brandon Williams whose collegiate experience has helped him gain strides in the tech industry.

“With the knowledge I am gaining in artificial intelligence, I know I am the future, and I can help other students become the future so we can help build a better society,” Williams said.

Junior Devyn Allen and doctoral student Joshua Bassey cap off The Overview in Panther Perspective, where they share a bit on their research, studies, and overall experience, so far, at PVAMU. In addition, the podcast highlights recent, current, and upcoming events at PVAMU’s three campuses.

The Office for Marketing and Communications plans to release new episodes of The Overview on the second Tuesday of each month, beginning in January 2020.
