Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) professor Shahedur Rahman, from the Department of Accounting, Finance, and MIS in the College of Business, visited Chittagong Independent University (CIU) in Bangladesh. The July 2018 visit was at the invitation of Dr. Mahfuzul H. Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of the University to discuss the areas that CIU’s School of Business and PVAMU’s College of Business can collaborate. Dr. Rahman entered discussions with Dr. Chowdhury, Dr. Nurul Absar, Dean of the School of Business. CIU has submitted a request for a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with PVAMU in hopes of solidifying the partnership.
While in Chittagong, Rahman was honored as a special guest speaker for the ‘Corporate Talk’ event at the University. As a special guest, he spoke about business education and how students should be prepared. Additionally, he discussed the importance of effective teaching in traditional classroom settings and implementing outside the classroom experiences. During his presentation, Rahman shared his teaching background and stressed the importance of developing a business curriculum that teaches students ethics including personal responsibility in addition to critical thinking, communication, and empirical & quantitative skills. Rahman also addressed the faculty encouraging them to engage in more research and community services, which involve students in such activities.
