Prairie View A&M University’s Social Work Education Program has maintained high academic and professional standards. The program constantly monitors student achievement and success. The following outcome reports highlight competency achievement by our students:

Bachelor of Social Work

The Baccalaureate Social Work Program at Prairie View A&M University prepares students for beginning level social work practice. The program educates and trains students in the integration of the knowledge, values, and skills needed for competent generalist social work practice.

Generalist social work practice entails a multi-method, multilevel conceptualization, encompassing knowledge and skills for intervention, problem-solving and service delivery at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. This program defines generalist social work practice as (a) viewing a problem situation in terms of the person-in-environment conceptualization (b) being willing and able to intervene at several different levels, if necessary while assuming any number of functions and c) using the problem-solving process to assess and intervene with problems confronting clients [individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.

The program utilizes the strengths, ecological and empowerment perspectives as well as systems theory in assessment, intervention and research with various client systems.
